Reflecting on 2024: Our Social Impact and Vision for the Future
“经过这个课程, 我学会了怎么放下” (After this course, I learned how to let go)
- 70+ year old lady, caregiver to her spouse, Last Aid participant. After the program, she realised that she needed to let go of things that are not important, including her fears about death and dying. She plans to travel and see the world.
As we close another year, we are deeply moved by the lives we've touched and the courage of our community in embracing end-of-life conversations. Together, we have challenged taboos, initiated healing dialogues, and empowered individuals to navigate these discussions with confidence and compassion.
We shifted important conversations upstream in the pre-palliative care stage through education and engagement. We offered end-of-life literacy programs like Last Aid to caregivers of loved ones with life-limiting illness. To engage the community, we had programs like Death Over Dinner and Death Over Dim Sum amongst others.
Our Social Impact
80% are confident in supporting their loved ones through end-of-life care. This shift is not just about numbers; it represents a profound transformation in how people approach these deeply personal and emotional moments. The ability to replace fear with understanding and uncertainty with clarity is a testament to the impact we are creating.
Comfort in having end-of-life discussions with others increased from 54% to 76% after the end-of-life literacy program, Last Aid. This significant shift demonstrates how education and open dialogue empower individuals to approach these conversations with confidence and ease. As a result, completion rates of LPA and ACP are seen to be at least 40% higher.
Bringing End-of-Life Conversations into the Mainstream
Throughout 2024, our message resonated far and wide, thanks to extensive media coverage on CNA - Channelnewsasia, The Straits Times, and nüyou.
These platforms not only helped normalize discussions about end-of-life, bringing more awareness to these essential conversations, but also amplified our impact by bringing these topics into the public eye. As a result, more people have been encouraged to reach out to us and engage in open and thoughtful discussions about mortality and their legacy.
Our outreach has extended beyond individuals to the wider community in the social and health sector conferences where we presented our social impact at the 1st Asia Pacific Population Health Conference
Measuring Social Impact Beyond Numbers
While numbers provide valuable insights, we believe true impact lies beyond statistics. Our focus remains on human stories, moments of connection, and the tangible change we bring to individuals and families. Every conversation we spark is a step toward making end-of-life discussions a normal, accepted, and empowering experience.
“This course has given me the confidence to support my loved ones facing the challenges of end-of-life care while fostering personal growth and awareness. I wholeheartedly recommend The Last Aid to anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of this essential aspect of life.
This has been an experience I will carry with me forever.”
- Juraidawati Jumali, caregiver to her mom
Looking Ahead
This impact is not just about 2024—it is part of a much larger journey. Every initiative, every event, and every conversation contributes to our broader vision: a world where end-of-life discussions are met with clarity, dignity, and peace, rather than avoidance and fear. We are committed to shifting societal attitudes, continually moving these important conversations upstream and ensuring that individuals and families are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need.
As we step into 2025, we invite you to be part of this movement. Your support can change lives, bring peace and dignity to families, and ensure that no one has to navigate end-of-life conversations alone.
Let’s chat.
